141.03 AUXILIARY POLICE UNIT.

(a) Establishment; Appointment of Members. Pursuant to Ohio R.C. 737.051, there is hereby established within the Police Department an Auxiliary Police Unit, the members of which shall be appointed by the Director of Public Safety.

(b) Duration of Service. Auxiliary Police Officers shall serve so long as the Director may direct, or until a resignation submitted by any such member is accepted by the Director.

(c) Qualifications of Members. Members of the Auxiliary Police Unit shall be residents of the City or the Township of Hubbard, and may not be under the age of twenty-one years at the time of their appointment.

(d) Commanding Officer. The Chief of Police shall be the commanding officer of the Auxiliary Police Unit and shall have control of the assignment, training, stationing and direction of work of such unit, subject to such general rules and regulations as the Director prescribes.

(e) Police Powers; Duties Assigned by Chief; Uniforms. The Auxiliary Police Unit shall have all police powers, but shall perform only such police duties as are assigned by the Chief of Police and shall act only when in the prescribed uniform or portion of uniform. The Chief of Police shall prescribe the time and place such uniform or portion thereof shall be worn.

(f) Obedience to Chain of Command. Members of the Auxiliary Police Unit shall obey the chain of command of the Police Department and shall take orders from all regularly appointed members thereof.

(g) Rules and Regulations. The Director shall prescribe rules and regulations for the organization, administration, conduct and control of the Auxiliary Police Unit, including the right to bear arms where deemed necessary.

(h) Uniform. The Director is hereby authorized to prescribe, by rules and regulations, the type of uniform or part thereof which shall be worn by members of the Auxiliary Police Unit.

(i) Compensation; Voluntary Services. Members of the Auxiliary Police Unit shall be paid a minimum of one dollar ($1.00) annually and such other compensation as is set by ordinance. All services performed by such members shall be on a voluntary basis and within the City.
